This piece draws inspiration from the intricate tilework found in the Ben Yusuf Madrasa, one of the largest and most celebrated madrasas in North Africa. Originally founded in the 14th century by Sultan Abu al-Hassan, the madrasa takes its name from the 12th-century ruler Ali Ben Yusuf, who significantly expanded Marrakesh and helped shape its architectural legacy. The structure was later restored during the Saadian dynasty, adding further refinement to its already rich design.

The pattern in this piece is based on a twelve-pointed star motif, repeated four times to form a continuous grid that mirrors the kind of decorative tiling found in the madrasa’s courtyards and prayer halls. Surrounded by interlocking kite and rhombus forms, the design captures both balance and complexity in a tightly ordered composition.

Created with digital precision using premium wood filament and finished by hand, each piece is carefully sanded down to highlight the clean, interlocking forms. It is then sealed with a protective finish to preserve its texture and deepen the visual contrast, giving the surface both durability and refinement.

Designed for easy hanging with a built-in nail bed on the back, the piece has a square profile measuring 160 millimetres on each side with a depth of 15 millimetres.
