The pattern is inspired by the marble inlay work of Itimad ud Daula’s mausoleum in Agra, an early 17th-century masterpiece that helped shape the architectural language of the Taj Mahal. Built during the height of the Mughal Empire, the mausoleum reflects a period when art and architecture were seen as expressions of imperial vision.
The Mughals ruled much of the Indian subcontinent from the early 16th to the mid-19th century, blending Persian, Indian, and Central Asian influences to create a refined aesthetic defined by symmetry, precision, and intricate ornamentation. This design draws on that legacy, capturing a moment when geometry, craftsmanship, and cultural identity were deeply intertwined.
The composition features an interlocking grid of eight-pointed stars and angular pathways, creating a harmonious rhythm that balances complexity with clarity. The result is a design that feels both rooted in history and visually timeless.
Created with digital precision using premium wood filament and finished by hand, each piece is carefully sanded down to sharpen the geometry and clarify the edges of the design. It is then sealed with a protective finish to preserve its texture and deepen the visual contrast, resulting in a durable, matte surface. Designed for simple wall mounting with a built-in nail bed on the back, the piece has a square profile measuring 160 millimetres on each side with a depth of 15 millimetres.
