This bookmark is inspired by the enduring geometry of the Great Mosque of Kairouan, one of the oldest and most influential monuments in North Africa. Founded in the 7th century and reconstructed in the 9th, the mosque is known for its powerful architectural presence and rhythmic, balanced design language.
The pattern reflects the bold simplicity found in early North African ornamentation. Interlocking angular forms and measured symmetry evoke the grounded aesthetic of Kairouan’s stonework and carved surfaces, where geometry served both structure and expression.
Created with digital precision using premium wood filament and finished by hand, each piece is carefully sanded to emphasize crisp lines and subtle depth. Multiple protective finishes are applied to enhance contrast, preserve surface texture, and ensure durability with a smooth matte finish.
Measuring 169 millimetres by 48 millimetres with a thickness of 3 millimetres, this bookmark is both functional and sculptural. It offers a quiet and elegant nod to a timeless design tradition.
