History

Inspired by the intricate frontispiece of a 14th century Qur’an from Damascus, this magnetic mosaic celebrates the precision and refinement of Mamluk craftsmanship. The Mamluks, enslaved soldiers who rose to power and built a dynasty that ruled Egypt and the Levant from the 13th to 16th centuries, were renowned patrons of the arts. Their legacy endures in exquisite examples of Islamic architecture, manuscript illumination, and bold geometric design.

Design

The pattern centres on a twelve pointed star framed by interlacing forms. The ten tiles can be arranged in countless ways, allowing you to create your own mosaic structure, whether forming a continuous field, mirroring a quadrant, or exploring new symmetries. When aligned edge to edge, a secondary motif appears at the joins, an interlocking floral like geometry that adds depth and quiet complexity.

Crafting and Finishing

Digitally modelled for accuracy and crafted with premium wood PLA, each tile is carefully shaped and hand finished to enhance its clean, interlocking forms. The base is designed for strength and stability with an anti slip pad that ensures a secure hold. Multiple protective coatings are applied to highlight contrast, preserve the surface, and ensure long lasting durability.
