The pattern is inspired by the historic ornamentation of the Qarawiyyin Mosque, founded in the 9th century by Fatima al-Fihri in Fez, Morocco. A visionary woman of remarkable intellect and devotion, Fatima al-Fihri used her inheritance to establish what would become one of the world’s oldest universities. The mosque and its adjacent institution became a renowned centre of learning and culture, attracting scholars from across the Islamic world. Its architecture reflects the values of precision, balance, and knowledge that shaped the intellectual life of the region for centuries.

This circular design features a twelve-fold star at its core, surrounded by a complex network of interlocking polygons, curved forms, and negative space. The layered structure gives the piece a sense of movement and balance, while small embedded star motifs add a playful but intentional detail that echoes the architectural richness of the Islamic West.

Created with digital precision using premium wood filament and finished by hand, each piece is carefully sanded down to clarify the geometry and sharpen the design’s edges. It is then sealed with a protective finish to preserve its texture and enhance visual contrast, resulting in a durable, matte surface. Designed for easy wall mounting with a built-in nail bed on the back, the piece is circular in form, measuring 177 millimetres in diameter and 15 millimetres in depth.
