History
The pattern is inspired by the historic ornamentation of the Qarawiyyin Mosque, founded in the 9th century by Fatima al-Fihri in Fez, Morocco. A visionary woman of remarkable intellect and devotion, Fatima al-Fihri used her inheritance to establish what would become one of the world’s oldest universities. The mosque and its adjacent institution became a renowned centre of learning and culture, attracting scholars from across the Islamic world. Its architecture reflects the values of precision, balance, and knowledge that shaped the intellectual life of the region for centuries.
Design
This circular design features a twelve-fold star at its core, surrounded by a complex network of interlocking polygons, curved forms, and negative space. The layered structure gives the piece a sense of movement and balance, while small embedded star motifs add a playful but intentional detail that echoes the architectural richness of the Islamic West.
Crafting & Finishing
Digitally modelled for precision and crafted with premium wood PLA, each piece is carefully shaped and hand-finished to clarify the geometry and sharpen the edges of the design. Multiple protective coatings are applied to preserve the surface, enhance contrast, and ensure durability with a smooth finish.
