History
This wall piece draws inspiration from the geometric ornamentation found in the ruins of Shalla, a historic necropolis just outside Rabat, Morocco. Once a bustling Roman settlement and later transformed into a spiritual sanctuary by the Marinid dynasty in the 14th century, Shalla is a place where layers of history, culture, and architecture converge. Crumbling mosaics, ancient tombs, and weathered gates still bear traces of the artistry that once defined the site.
Design
At the centre of the design is an eight-pointed star, a hallmark of traditional Islamic geometry. From this focal point radiate interlocking angular forms that create a symmetrical layout balancing complexity and clarity. The pattern reflects the mathematical precision and symbolic harmony of Moroccan craftsmanship, bridging historic design with contemporary expression.
Crafting & Finishing
Digitally modelled for precision and crafted with premium wood PLA, each piece is carefully shaped and hand-finished to highlight clean, interlocking forms. A protective coating is applied to preserve the texture and enhance visual contrast, resulting in a durable, matte surface.
